(top two photos, figueroa hotel in Los Angeles, Morrocan fountains)

Everyone who knows me, knows that i'm a fan of the exotic. Anything different and beautiful is bound to catch my eye at some point. I have this "radar" to zooms in on things that i find interesting or things i want to possess lol.
I was in a jewelery store selling some of my old gold, when i picked up a magazine about downtown Los Angeles. Inside the magazine was a listing of hotels, restaurants and things to do. I was just about to put the magazine down when " lo and behold", the Figueroa Hotel's lobby picture jumped right off the page. Looking like a Moroccan palace, the Fig Hotel was just begging me to go and visit. And since the Fig was down the street from the jewelery store, i just took a quick ride down to it.
.The hotel looked like any other hotel in l.a from the outside, but once inside i was competely "blown away". Ever inch of the hotel looked like i just stepped in Cashba. I was most impressed with the rooms. There are custom rooms that have different Moroccan themes, there are even lounges and rooms for events that have different themes as well. sigh** it's such a romantic place. The Fig reminds me of " Old Hollywood". see for yourself.

Eartha Kitt (January 17,1927 - December 25,2008

no other woman has inspired me like Eartha Kitt. Her sultry style and feminism showed the world how sexy Black Women really are. Eartha was sexy never trashy and she carried herself like a queen. She was a multi-talented singer, dancer and actress. From Catwoman to " Santa baby", Eartha won the hearts of many.
Eartha you will be greatly missed, you truly are a legend.

(water falls in Uganda/Rawanda. river in the Congo, beautiful African Rainforest/Jungle in the Congo)

Ever since Black people have been brought to the western hemisphere, the world "jungle" has always had a negative association. "Jungle Bunnies", "Jungle Babies" just to name a few have been words use to negatively describe people of African decent or anyone else indigenous to the rainforest. The people who begin using these negative "nicknames" were oblivious to the fact that the jungle is one of the most "beautiful Biomes in the world"!!!! With it's moist air, fruit bearing trees, dynamic flora and funa(flowers and wildlife) brightly colored birds, summer rains and beautiful waters (both ocean and fresh water), the rainforests of the world provide us with some of the most benefitical ingredients for health, beauty and medicine. I take care great pride in knowing that my ancestry is deeply rooted in such a marvelous place, and hopefully you do too. There's no shame in being a descendant of "paradise".
my new few posts will be about the jungle/rainforest and how we can benefit from it.

(Smooth Girl Magazine models, nikki manaj, buffie, lil kim)

yes, i posted it, "Jungle Body" may be downright derogatory, but trust me if you have one there's nothing to be ashamed of (i have one lol). In one of my previous postings, i spoke of how black women's beauty isn't recognized so it's up to us to put ourselves on a pedestal.contrary to popular beliefs, we do in fact have some badd assss shapes. i mean the kind that many woman envy and many men ( secretly) desire. i guess a part of me understands why the mainstream world has fought so hard to suppress our beauty because when it all boils down; " WE DA SHITTTT!!"ahem...*cough* pardon me, i got carried away.
in order to take care of your " jungle body" , you need to do cardio 7x a week and increase your fruit and veggie intake by 60% (or more), and do toning exercises. cardio should be done everyday, but interval training or a strong cardio workout should only be done 3 times a week. pilates, yoga, kickboxing, dancing, ballet are all good ways to tone your body. now i like weights but i know some women who don't like to bulk up, using light weights and high reps are a great way to tone up without getting bulky.stretching before and after you workouts is the key.
a diet high in fruits, veggies and lean proteins (beans too) are good for you. tropical fruits are my personal favorites.i strongly suggest a Caribbean diet or a modified "creole" diet to achieve healthiness. it's important to take care of yourself, not just so you can look good and fit in some jeans but to be healthy and live a long healthy life.

life is so pretty and colorful, i just had to add some pictures for you to see. this is why it's so important for us to preserve the earth.
** Denise, that frog is for you.**

(snake jewelry, Rober Cavali snake sandals, snake cluthces, Naomi Cambel working a snake dress, snake goddess)

hissssss.. The word " snake" can strike fear in some and mysticism and fascination in others. Pre-Christianity, snakes were revered and represented the feminine, luck, love, power and many other positive things. Sadly, the world has changed it's perspective on snakes. driven by fear ( and religious fanatics), the snake has been reduced to a venomous demon. So today i will restores the snakes reputation and uplift it back to it's original glorious status.

in regards to fashion, the snake has made the world stand still. From bangles, to dresses, the snake stands alone in being a timeless aspect in the fashion world.

the dress; nothing says " sexy" like a bad ass snake dress. when couples with the right shoes, and jewelry, the snake dress is bound to make everyone in the room, "hiss". For me "Sky Brand" clothing seems to the concept of snake clothing mastered. Sky has an array of snake tops and dresses with snake detail, charms, and embellishments, for a fairly pricey price. Snake dresses look good with mimimal jewelry and "not so flashy" shoes, since the main focus is the dress, i suggest playing down everything so that the dress can be played up.!! you can always go to ebay or google to find Sky Brand clothing , otherwise check out, http://www.sky-clothing.com/Sky_dress_links.html for links on where to get Sky brand.

the bag: snake purses and cluthes are the must have for every season.Fashionably speaking, purses are easiest to find, it just depends upon your price range. when wearing a snake purse or bag i recommend wearing it when u have plain clothes on and want your bag to stand out. your stripped shirt or sequin blouse would not do a snake purse justice, it would only make u look busy and chaotic, unless of course that's the look that you desire. pair a snake clutch or purse with a sexy sweater and jeans, or a simple black dress for a night out, keep things minimal so you purse can steal the show. now if your one for having prints on and still want a snake purse, i suggest keeping the purse neutral with a more natural look, so it won't clash with your outfit or shoes, i.e cream, light brown, tan, dark brown, or black etc. that way your clothes look sexy and your purse look complementary. in terms of where to buy, Ross, Tj maxx, AJ Wright, and Marshalls all have snake purses for a reasonable price. you can always find a nice guess snake purse
http://www.guess.com/ or at macy's. Ebay carries an array of snake purses and clutches from name brand right on down to the less pricey.

Shoes; well i have to admit, snake shoes are the sexiest of them all. if you can find a pair with an actual snake charm on it.. omg!! I'm lost for words. snakeskin printed shoes are everywhere, my favorite is micheal antonio, his brand seems to have the snake pumps and sandals "down packed". you can wear snake pumps with jeans or at the office,or snake sandals with dresses, or a jumpsuit it's all up to you. since snake shoes are everywhere, there's no sense in my trying to give you numerous links for them. Google, ebay,
http://www.michaelantonio.com/ just to name a few and you will find all the snake sandals you need.

I forgot to mention snake printed swimsuits, simply because it's fall and the thought literally slipped my mind. Unless you live in the tropics this information might be unless to you this time of year, however we can still talk about it. As far as bikinis go, I've always felt the snake was the sexiest, it's something about animal print swimwear when done correctly that brings out the best in any skin complexion.i must confess that i can't stand nude, flesh colored swimsuit and in some cases snake prints are always just that.for all my chocolate, honey complexed readers those colors make you look flawless, as for me I'd rather go neon snake lol.. but anyways, at a pool party, dress your snake bikini up with some sexy gold jewelry, if it's a monokini, pair it with some gold necklaces and bangles, if it's a two piece a gold belly chain and bangles would do just fine, if you wear a necklace then have on a thin gold one. again, Google, ebay, and just about any other search engine with help you find snake swimwear. Most of the swimwear brands i highly recommend aren't using snake print this year so you will have to find it on your own. however "Aguaclara" has a snake printed bikini line called "Sierra Leon", so check it out.
www.aguaclara.com

well there you have it, the wonderful snake that once represented, kundanlini( google it), the symbol of life and death, the turner of time, the absolution of power and many other spiritual things can now be gracefully reborn in fashion.we can combat it's negative association by wearing our snakes with pride, love, sex appeal or just plain fun, in hopes that the snake's throne can be reclaimed, and it's true meaning restored.

(swimwear from Aguaclara,Ondedamar,Agua Bendita)

there's a spark of magic in South America. Aside from it's pretty waters, waterfull, beautiful rain forests, and beautiful people, South America has a well hidden secret; it's swimwear!! I came across these South American swimsuits and was totally blown out the water.Words or pictures can't describe the beauty, the creativity, the fabulous prints and colors their swimsuits have. I'd like to point out 3 major swimwear companies. Ondademar,Aguaclara, Aqua Bendita all of which have fabulous swimsuits.

Ondademar is up first. Ondademar is a swimwear company from Colombia who's name means " wave/ripple of the ocean". what I like about this company is that their suits are elegant sexy, they have some very exotically style suits for different body shapes and sizes. There colors are soft, yet vibrant and complement dark skin (yay!!). (see black multi colored suit towards the bottom middle) I had the pleasure of speaking to a Ondademar working on facebook and she/he was so nice, they answered my questions honestly and gave me information regarding suits and where I can find them in my home town. I have to give Ondadmar thumbs up and definitely recommend them to everyone I know. so please take some time and check out their site..(hint* they have having a sale going on..)

When it comes to zany, colorful and wild swimwear I have no choice but to point in Agua bendita's direction.( the top two bikinis on the top and top right) This Colombian company which means " water blessed" is truly a blessing. If you are the type of woman who likes bright vibrant and just plain outlandish , then Bendita is defiantly for you. They have some of the most distinct styles I've ever seen, matter of fact I can't even describe their style. hmm let me try, combine gypsy, bohemian, Caribbean, bright, floral, insane, loud( just to name a few) and you will get Bendita. It's kinda reminisced of Betsy Johnson's edgy fashion. while I haven't had the luxury of speaking to any of the Bendita members , I will say that I'm impress with their style and fashion sense. Aside from swimsuits, you can purchase many of their accessories, and jewelry. Let's not forget these suits are chocolate, caramel, honey brown, yellow and "everything in between friendly". http://www.aguabendita.com.co/

last but not least is Agua Clara. Now I confess Aqua clara is one of my favorites ( animal prints suits and green suit above left and middle).Straight from Peru. Agua Clara has some of the sexiest animal prints and exotic styles I've ever seen. Aqua Clara, which means " clear water" has something for everyone. My first experience with Clara was a blue/brown snake bikini that was given as a gift and it was the most exotic print and colors I've ever seen. since then, I've been following Clara's collections and to my viewing pleasure have seen many African inspired animal prints, embellishments, sexy shells, very distinct swimsuit styles and all the exactness that i can handle( all darker skin friendly!!!). Clara makes u want to work two jobs so u can support your shopping habits. If you want to look like a model in a magazine then i strongly suggest Clara, because no one on the beach will have your suit, nor will anyone on the beach look as sexy as you. I also had the liberty of speaking with a Clara rep and he too was nice, helpful and even asked my first name so he could talk to me on a more "personal" level. He told me that anytime i had any questions to call him and he would take care of me. With that being said Clara has a costumer for life. http://www.aguaclara-swimwear.com/

that sums it up for South America(for now). All I can say is save your money, these suits aren't cheap. They run $100 us and up, but it's well worth having a suit that's well stitched, destined, colorful , and complementary to your skin tone.

( Pure Fiji Star Fruit Scrub,Bella Lucce Starfruit And Banana Body Cream, Get Fresh Starfruit products, yummy starfruit in a bowl)

Starfruit is a wonderful gift.Native to the tropical regions, this tangy fruit is packed with antioxidants, iron, fiber and many beauty benefits.Named for it's star like shape after cutting, the starfruit can really add zest to your culinary skills, by making your dish look exotic, giving you a sweet and sour smoothie,or a tropical fruit salad or chutney to be glazed over chicken, pork, or fish. For those of us who don't live in the tropics, getting starfruit poses as a challenge, but there are a few skincare products that can contain starfruit that can be delivered right to your front door.

For those of us who prefer tropical skincare products (not that i blame you) you can give Pure Fiji a try.Fiji has a whole array of products containing starfruit. now, I've never tried these personally, but i was told from friends that Fiji left there skin soft and glowy. So why not test it out.
please feel free to email me and tell me how Fiji is working for you.
last but not least, we have Bella Lucce. Now Bella is wonderful line because it has skin care ingredients from all over world! Bella has a starfruit and banana bath cream, which is suppose to be added to your bath water leaving you with soft touchable skin. Aside from the starfruit, there's Peruvian chocolate, Arctic scrubs, and honey drizzle bath syrup.I've shopped with Bella recently, I'm highly impressed with the products available and Bella is always having some sort of sale or promotion. (Peacock eye make up, Handome peacock, peacock feather earrings, and peacock candle)

Hello everyone, once again it's time for the "Friday Spotlight"(which is a day late sorry). Today i wanted to showcase one of my favorite birds, the Peacock.Known for it's pretty feathers, it's turquoise blue green hue and it's mystical dance, the peacock is said to be on of the most beautiful birds in the world.More and more I've seen peacocks (or feathers) everywhere; on maxi dress, on tops, earrings, bangles, shoes just to name a few.The peacock can be paired with many looks, whether it's a bohemian look, urban, Gothic or even classic, there's something for everyone.A pair of peacock earrings are a fabulous way to bring out a new hair style.pair a peacock maxi dress with some pretty gold sandals. Grab a peacock bangle a pair it with a few Indian bangles.
Peacock eye make up can be sexy if done right. You can line your eyes with a pretty peacock colored pencil, i recommend Milani Color Brilliance pencil in "Aqua". http://www.miliancosmetics.com/ or you can find them at your local CVS, Target or Wal-greens. to obtain peacock colored eyes (see look above) I recommend a make line called Lime Crime makeup. Lime crime has an array of pigments and glitters in peacock style colors. www.limecrimemakeup.com . Using gold as a base, blend green and blue eyeshadow on your lids below the brow bone.Add gold to your the inner corners of your eye (yellow can be used as a base and in the inner corners).
While on my expedition for more peacock things, I've ran across a pretty peacock candle. www.navyburr.com .For only $7.00 you can order this pretty candle (see above picture) and give it as a gift or place it in your home for all you're friends to see!!
One of the best peacock dresses I've ever seen is one by Giovanni(above).Sadly i couldn't locate Giovanni's site but you can google it and find sister companies that carry the dress.
peacock bangles and earrings aren't hard to find. I've seen a few in Forever 21 stores. www.forever21.com . while i haven't seen anymore on the site, I've seen several in the stores. Claires is another store that carries peacock bangles and earrings.www.claires.com. On Ebay you can choose from a variety of sellers and feather earring and bangle styles. www.ebay.com .
The peacock has such pretty plumage that i can't imagine what life for us would be without it, with such pretty jewelry clothes, and eyemakeup it's a wonder that we don't keep them as pets. However, conseravtion of this beautiful bird is on top of my list, please take time to visit http://www.wild-india.com/IndianAnimals/peacock.html to learn more information about peacocks and conservation efforts.

(Quinces fresh on the tree, Dr.Hauschka Quince Day Cream, Eminence Quince maques)
Hello everyone, it's time for "spotlight Fridays".Every Friday i will showcase an item and relate it to skincare, body care, health or well being. Today's "spotlight" is the Quince. The quince is a lesser known fruit to some, but a skin care marvel to many! A close cousin to the apple, the quince is packed with vitamin c and antioxidants that are both good for your body and you're skin! Here are some more wonderful facts about the quince.

Preparation, uses, and tips:

Almost anything that can be done with apples can be done with quinces. They need a similar length of cooking time and are delicious stewed, baked, and made into fruit butter. When baking with quinces, add sugar only after they become soft and the flesh starts to change in color from white to pink.
Quince around the world

Quince paste is still widely made in France (contignac) and Spain (membrilo), while a quince spread (dulce do membrilo) is made in Argentina and Chile.
Moroccan cuisine incorporates quinces in its flavorful tagines, stew-like combinations of meats and dried fruits often spiced with cinnamon and cloves.
Cutting, peeling, and coring quince
Peel quince before using it in jams, preserves, desserts, and savory dishes. Since quince is such a hard fruit, be sure to use a large, firm chef’s knife to cut it into halves, quarters, or slices. Peeling works well with a vegetable peeler or a small paring knife. Remove the core with a small, firm paring knife.
Quince “sauce"

Quince makes an excellent fruit sauce similar to applesauce. To prepare, peel a few quinces, slice them, and remove the seeds. Cook them in a small amount of water with plenty of sweetener of choice until they reach a pulpy consistency like applesauce. Mash or puree in a food processor and serve.

Buying and storing tips
Choose quinces that are firm with a pale yellow skin. Sometimes quinces are mottled with brown spots, but such markings do not affect their flavor or quality. Quinces that are shriveled, soft, or brown all over are no longer fresh. Since they bruise easily, quinces must be handled carefully.
If quinces are not completely ripened, store them at room temperature until they are yellow all over and give off a pleasant scent.
If you do not plan on using ripe quinces immediately, they can be wrapped in a plastic bag and stored in the refrigerator for up to two months. Be sure to store quinces apart from apples and pears because their powerful aroma may permeate these other fruits.

Varieties
Pineapple quince
With a flavor that resembles its tropical namesake, the pineapple quince from California is the most common variety available in the United States. Like most varieties of quince, it is hard and tart, so it is primarily used for cooking.
Apple quince
A sweeter variety of quince, called the apple quince, was developed in the 1990s. Unlike most quinces, this variety can be enjoyed raw.

Quinces in skincare:
So far, I located two companies that have Quinces in their products. For facial and body care you should try "Dr.Hauschka".These quince products are said to deliver moisture to thirsty skin without clogging pores. A friend of mines who lives in a dry climate, told me she has been using the quince line for a few weeks and says her skin has a soft subtle glow and feels much softer. She says the prices are within her budget and the products lasts for awhile.i personally haven't used this line, but i would love to get feedback from some of my readers. So please feel free to send me a few comments if you have tried this brand. http://www.drhauschka.com/ .
relaxing to an at home facial mask/masque is one of my favorite past times. So using "Eminence's Quince Apple masque or Quince & Ice Wine Masque are a real treat.I prefer the Quince Apple masque for my dry skin, but if you are oily to normal, the Quince& Ice Wine is perfect for you. when you hear the word "exotic" what do u think of? Do you think of a waterfalls, pretty flowers, pretty beaches? The true definition of exotic is something that's "strangely beautiful ,foreign, from a different land, introduced from another country or not native to the place where found".

so how can you be exotic? the key to having a rare special distinct beauty begins with the love of self. when you love your self you;

*take care of you're skin, body and soul

*eat a healthy diet of fruits and veggies

*exercise on a regular basis, even if it's for 15 mins

*display acts of kindness, charity and goodness

*maintain dignity at all times

*be yourself, stop trying to fit in with everyone else and embraces yourself, wear what u want to wear not what everyone else thinks you should!!! hey if you want to wear those cow earrings you're grandma brought you for Christmas. fine with me.

*get a hobby. belly dance, sing, sew, make vases.. do something that unleashes you're inner goddess.

being exotic isn't just about having plastic breasts, a fake tan, or looking like a food deprived model. exoticness is about being yourself and allowing the "true you" to shine. Once you've mastered this concept, people will marvel at you.

But it all starts with "self love".

Now let's get into some exotic skin care products.

I've been trying a product from Indonesia called "juara skincare". The products in this skin care line include, a rice cleanser, a banana and avocado mask, tamarind toner, and turmeric mask, just to name a few. Juara skincare line can be a bit pricey, but it's a good investment if you want quality skincare that contains natural ingredients. you can find Juara products at. http://www.juaraskincare.com/

Brazil, Brazil, Brazil!!!! Known for it's beauty people, beaches and carnival, Brazil has been the focal point of beauty for quite some time.
